Published.circa 1997

As I was rummaging through some old documents. I happened to chance on this piece of history - one of my published writings during my university days.

I was a contributor/writer for the McGill Tribune when I started university in Montreal. This is before digital newspapers were offered and everything had hard copies so the physical article has survived the various moves.

I remember wanting to see what it would feel like as a reporter. Believe me that it was a lot of research and interviews that I had to catch these people in random times and places to get the story and make it to the deadline. It was a good experience in trying to balance off the pros and cons since as a news reporter, I had to write the facts and not make it sound too "propaganda-ish." The topic was fairly controversial and I had to make it work. There were a number of edits that came and sometimes, my voice was pretty strong. I'm thankful that the editor was able to help me and edit it to a more balanced POV.

Hey, I might not be on the front page but I definitely was part of it - Page 2!

So, this is to prove that I did write in a school newspaper that started everything...I didn't realize the impact that it would be later when I do start blogging.

FYI - I later was able to write in a public newspaper in Hong Kong, which I will try to post up when I find it and that deals with the features side of the newspaper. That one I enjoyed a lot since it was a light topic and allowed me to voice my opinions more.
